Chapter Thirteen

And that’s my story.  I never saw my tribe again, and I have no intention of ever looking for them.  Those that were wounded in the battle eventually transformed as well.  Not all of them became wolves, but they were all allowed to join the pack.  They fit in now as if they had never been humans.

Bastian finished his transformation about a week after all this happened.  He’s delighted with his new body, and he can’t wait for me to join him as a full panther.  That’s right, I’ve finally accepted what’s happening to me.  I’m not afraid anymore.  In fact, I’m excited about it!  It will be like looking at a brand new world.  And the best part is that I’ll have Bastian by my side the whole time.

I’m writing all of this down now while I can.  Bastian gave me his journal, the one he’d recorded his own story in, just for that purpose.  After I finish this chapter, I will hide the notebook.  If anyone manages to find it, please know that this is all true.  Every word of it.  By the time you read this, my transformation will undoubtedly be finished.  Maybe you can find me.  If you ever see a panther hanging out with a pack of wolves, you’ll know you’re in the right place.

I know it’s not my decision to make for you, but the best advice I can give you is to stop holding onto your humanity.  Life as a Feral is amazing.  We’re not monsters like you’ve probably been raised to believe.  We’re just living creatures, like you and your family and friends, trying to make our way in the world.  I can’t force you to do anything, but just keep this in mind:

If you want to join the pack, you are welcome here.  Everyone is welcome here.

Sincerest regards,

~Eve
